Welcome Katie Bries, ARNP

September 7, 2013 1 Comment

Katie Bries, ARNP, has joined our staff as a Nurse Practitioner.  Her expertise is in Adult and Geriatric Medicine.  This will allow us to make the most of the time we have with each patient.  She began seeing patients on her own Friday.  At last!

Katie has been a nurse for 18 years.  She now has completed her Masters degree as a Nurse Practitioner at Allen College.  Last spring she did a clinical rotation in our office.  Impressed with our success in bone health, osteoporosis prevention and treatment, she  accepted a position with us.

Katie has learned the details of clinical management.  Actually that was the easy part.  Learning to deal with Electronic Medical Records and increasing government regulations was challenging for her, as it has been for me.

The certification process has been long and complicated.  She graduated and received her MSN degree, passed her board exams, received her national certificate, was approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing, received her license, obtained her Iowa narcotics certificate, then obtained her federal narcotics certificate, then applied to each and every insurance plan for a provider certification number.  Nearly 4 months into this process, she can now see patients.  Before we can receive payment for her services, we will wait another 3-4 months for her certification with Medicare and other insurers to be completed.

The good news is that Katie Bries, ARNP, is finally on board.  She has been worth the wait.
