Grandson “Sitting”

January 15, 2012 Leave your thoughts

My wife and I have just completed a week of “sitting” our 17 month old grandson, RJ.  Very little sitting was involved except when he climbed on a lap to read with one of us.  “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” is his favorite.  Fitting!

His Pediatrician is managing his Bone Health with a diet high in Calcium and Vitamin D supplements (400 IU daily) as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  His mother carefully instructed us (her parents) on proper nutrition for a child.

He has forgotten how to walk.  He runs everywhere.  Children who run an hour every day develop optimal bone size and strength.  No problem getting RJ to build strong bones.

RJ is an eating machine.  His sippy cup is refilled with milk again and again.  He eats a string cheese at most meals.  He virtually inhaled bowls of steamed broccoli.  All good sources of Natural Calcium!

His mother has been on Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy, during breast feeding, and now during recovery from those drains on her Vitamin D stores.  She lives in Minnesota and was low before adding extra supplements.

We are exhausted.  (We once handled 3 kids with ease.)   It’s quiet.  We miss him already.
