BMD Measures Calcium in BoneAugust 17, 2013 Leave your thoughts
A patient was very disappointed recently, that his Bone Mineral Density (BMD) had NOT IMPROVED, despite anabolic medication for his Osteoporosis. The reason for failure became obvious as soon as we reviewed his diet and supplements.
His total Calcium intake is 500 mg daily in diet, with NO supplements. He prefers to avoid supplements as “unnatural”. This is OK. Natural Calcium in Foods is actually better than supplements. But you have to consume it. And you need to take it properly spaced throughout the day.
Your body needs at least 1000 mg calcium daily. Otherwise it will take calcium out of your bones. At 1200 to 1500 mg of calcium daily, your body will put calcium into your bones.
Your body will absorb only 5-600 mg at a single meal. Spread your calcium out over 3 or more meals.
If you want your BMD to increase, you need to take enough Calcium. You need to have a Vitamin D level high enough to be able to absorb calcium. You need enough Magnesium to be able to absorb calcium. And you need enough Protein to make new bone matrix.
Take control Naturally with enough Calcium, Vit D3, Magnesium, and Protein in diet and supplements combined.
